Key ResponsibilitiesThe Watch Clerk performs a wide array of specialized clerical tasks that are essential to the daily operations of the police force. These responsibilities require a high level of focus and the ability to manage sensitive information under pressure. Key duties include:
- Maintaining and updating complex police records management systems (such as PRIME) to ensure all investigative data is accurate and current.
- Transcribing high volumes of recorded statements, interviews, and sensitive reports with strict attention to detail and legal formatting requirements.
- Providing administrative support to police officers on duty, including the preparation of court documents, disclosure packages, and informational summaries.
- Managing incoming inquiries from the public and partner agencies, directing information appropriately while adhering to strict privacy and confidentiality protocols.
- Ensuring compliance with national and provincial reporting standards for all law enforcement documentation.
- Assisting with the processing of files related to various criminal investigations and operational tasks as required by the Watch Commander.
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess a blend of technical clerical skills and the personal integrity required for work within a secure police environment. The following qualifications are sought:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent, supplemented by formal post-secondary training in office administration or legal studies.
- Proven experience in a high-volume administrative role, preferably within a law enforcement, legal, or emergency services setting.
- Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to quickly master specialized police databases and records management software.
- Exceptional typing speed and accuracy, specifically in transcription and data entry.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and pass a comprehensive RCMP enhanced security clearance.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively alongside uniformed officers and civilian staff in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and professional composition.
