Urban Legend is seeking an ambitious and technically agile Backend Engineer to join our core team as we scale our innovative platform for creators and marketers. This is a high-impact role where you will report directly to the CTO, offering a unique opportunity to shape our technical architecture and product roadmap with zero bureaucratic layers. Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be at the heart of our technical operations, designing, developing, and maintaining the scalable backend services that power our creator tools and conversion tracking systems. You will work across a diverse and modern polyglot stack, primarily leveraging Python/Django and Ruby on Rails to build customer-facing features from end to end. A significant part of your initial focus will involve contributing to our active infrastructure migration from Heroku to Render, ensuring our systems remain performant and secure during this transition. You will collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and front-end engineers to transform high-level requirements into robust technical solutions. At Urban Legend, we embrace modern AI-assisted development; you will integrate tools like Cursor into your daily workflow to accelerate your shipping speed and enhance code quality. You will be expected to make informed decisions quickly, prioritizing iteration and learning over prolonged analysis.

• Architect and maintain robust backend services across Django, Ruby on Rails, and Flask.
• Lead infrastructure improvements, focusing on our migration to Render and optimizing AWS resources.
• Develop and refine high-throughput conversion tracking systems and Node.js-based services.
• Manage background job processing and caching strategies using Redis and Postgres.
• Maintain Docker-based development and production environments to ensure consistency across the stack.
• Collaborate with the broader engineering team to implement secure, scalable API designs and clean integrations with React clients.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate who possesses a relentless drive to deliver high-quality software and thrives in a remote-first setting. You should be someone who isn't afraid of ambiguity and prefers shipping code today rather than spending weeks in debate. While we use several languages, your core expertise should be in either Python/Django or Ruby on Rails, with the willingness to become proficient in the other quickly. Our ideal candidate is a product-minded engineer who also understands the importance of solid infrastructure and DevOps best practices.

• Strong, production-level expertise in either Python/Django or Ruby on Rails.
• A strong bias toward action and a proven ability to ship, measure, and iterate quickly.
• Deep proficiency in relational databases (Postgres), REST API design, and background job processing.
• Comfortable working in Docker-based local and production environments.
• Demonstrated ability to learn unfamiliar frameworks and languages, such as Flask, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• Active, hands-on experience with AI coding tools, particularly Cursor, and a point of view on how to use them effectively.
• Experience with cloud platforms like Render, Heroku, or AWS, and an interest in DevOps/Platform engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• Nice to have: Experience with ad-tech, web scraping (Playwright/Puppeteer), or payment systems (Stripe/PayPal).
