About the Role
Unikraft is on a mission to redefine the cloud from the ground up, moving away from the wasteful, slow, and expensive legacy systems that dominate the industry today. As a Tooling Engineer, you will be the primary architect of the developer experience (DX), creating the essential tools that allow developers to harness the power of ultra-lightweight unikernels. We believe that building and deploying cloud-native applications should be instantaneous and resource-efficient, and your work will be the bridge that makes this vision a reality. The current cloud ecosystem is burdened by layers of unnecessary complexity and overhead. At Unikraft, we are stripping that away to provide a platform that allows millions of users to run on just a few servers without compromising performance. Your role is to ensure that while the underlying technology is sophisticated, the interface for the developer is seamless. You will be tasked with designing, implementing, and maintaining a suite of tools including command-line interfaces (CLIs), software development kits (SDKs), and integrations that provide a world-class experience for our growing community of users.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development and maintenance of our core CLI tools, ensuring they are fast, intuitive, and robust.
- Design and build comprehensive SDKs in various languages to help developers integrate Unikraft into their existing workflows.
- Develop and optimize CI/CD integrations, GitHub Actions, and other automation scripts to streamline the deployment pipeline.
- Collaborate closely with the core systems team to translate complex low-level functionality into user-friendly abstractions.
- Engage with the open-source community to gather feedback, troubleshoot issues, and drive the adoption of Unikraft tooling.
- Create detailed documentation and technical guides to support developers in building and deploying their first unikernels.
- Participate in architectural reviews and contribute to the overall technical roadmap of the Unikraft platform.
- Proven experience in systems programming and a deep understanding of how the cloud works under the hood.
- Expertise in Go (Golang) is highly preferred, as it is our primary language for tooling and infrastructure.
- Familiarity with C and a strong grasp of Linux internals, including namespaces, cgroups, and the boot process.
- Extensive experience building and maintaining CLIs and developer-facing tools with a focus on usability and performance.
- Prior experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
- A strong background in open-source development and a track record of contributing to community-driven projects.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.
- Must be located within the CET 2 hours timezone to facilitate effective remote collaboration.
