This hybrid role offers a unique opportunity to lead a dedicated tax department, overseeing complex compliance operations for a diverse portfolio of individual and corporate clients while driving technical excellence within the firm.
As the Tax Manager, you will serve as a pivotal leader, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced professional environment. You will be responsible for navigating the intricacies of both Puerto Rico and federal tax laws, providing high-level advisory services, and fostering a collaborative culture through effective mentorship and team management. This position is ideal for a CPA-certified professional who thrives on client engagement and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities- Direct and supervise the preparation and comprehensive review of corporate, individual, and partnership tax returns to ensure precision and timeliness.
- Maintain rigorous compliance with all Puerto Rico Department of Treasury (Hacienda) and federal IRS tax regulations.
- Manage the internal tax department workflow, including work assignments, deadline monitoring, and resource allocation to meet productivity targets.
- Provide technical guidance, professional development, and mentorship to junior and senior accounting staff members.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, delivering proactive tax planning strategies and identifying optimization opportunities to minimize tax liabilities.
- Review complex financial reports and supporting documentation to ensure data integrity and audit-readiness.
- Monitor legislative updates and emerging trends in local and federal tax law, communicating the impact of these changes to both the team and clients.
- Collaborate with firm leadership to implement process improvements and technological enhancements that increase departmental efficiency.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited institution is required; a Master’s in Taxation is a plus.
- Current and active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is mandatory.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in tax compliance and consulting within a public accounting firm environment.
- Proven expertise in managing both Puerto Rico and federal tax filings.
- Prior experience working within a local Puerto Rico public accounting firm is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with the ability to supervise, train, and motivate a team of accounting professionals.
- Full professional proficiency in both English and Spanish (Fully Bilingual) is required for effective client and internal communication.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to solve complex tax issues under tight deadlines.
