About the Role

Sydney Trains is looking for motivated and reliable individuals to join our Fleet Customer Experience team as Train Cleaning Attendants within the Newcastle region. This is a pivotal role where your dedication to excellence directly impacts the daily experience of thousands of commuters. As the face behind the scenes, you will ensure that our trains and facilities meet the highest standards of hygiene and presentation, contributing to our core strategic objective of improving customer satisfaction. Whether you are looking for full-time stability or part-time flexibility, this position offers a unique opportunity to begin a long-term career within the NSW Public Sector, an organization that is deeply passionate about helping its employees learn, grow, and succeed.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for providing consistent, high-quality general and deep cleaning services to our Customer Experience Centres and Stabling Yards. Your duties will go beyond simple aesthetics; you will be tasked with maintaining a safe and sanitary environment for the public. This includes the thorough cleaning of train interiors, upholstery, and high-touch surfaces, as well as exterior maintenance at various locations. You will be assigned to key hubs including Newcastle, Hamilton, Broadmeadow, and Gosford, working as part of a collaborative team to meet strict deadlines and operational requirements.

  • Execute deep cleaning protocols for train carriages and stabling yards to ensure a premium customer experience.
  • Adhere to strict safety standards and operational procedures to ensure the well-being of yourself, your colleagues, and our passengers.
  • Operate specialized cleaning equipment and handle materials in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and fleet teams to ensure trains are serviced and ready for scheduled departures.
  • Maintain detailed logs of cleaning activities and report any maintenance issues or safety hazards identified during shifts.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates who are self-motivated, proactive, and take immense pride in their work. Because our network operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, a high degree of flexibility is required. Successful applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety and a genuine desire to provide excellent service to the community. You should be someone who thrives in a physically active environment and is comfortable working a variety of shifts, including early mornings, late nights, and weekends. Please note that for permanent positions within the NSW Public Sector, applicants must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents and at least 18 years of age.

  • Ability to commit to a 24/7 rotating roster, with a primary focus on night shifts and weekend work.
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • A safety-conscious mindset with the ability to follow complex instructions and procedures.
  • Previous experience in industrial cleaning or customer service is highly regarded but not essential, as full training is provided.

We offer a competitive salary of approximately $1,196.70 per week, along with the security of a permanent role within the public sector. Upon commencement, you will undergo a comprehensive, paid on-the-job induction and training program designed to equip you with all the skills necessary to excel in your role. Beyond the immediate benefits, a career with Transport for NSW provides a pathway for professional development and internal promotion, allowing you to build a lasting and meaningful career in the transport industry.
