About the Role
Stellar AI is inviting talented and forward-thinking Senior Software Engineers to join an elite group of contributors dedicated to pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence. This unique, project-based contract role offers the ultimate flexibility, allowing you to contribute to high-stakes AI research on your own schedule while tackling complex technical challenges across a diverse array of modern programming languages. As the AI landscape evolves, the need for rigorous software verification and deep architectural understanding has never been greater; in this position, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the next generation of AI systems are built on a foundation of technical excellence and correctness.
This is not your typical corporate software engineering role. We have stripped away the traditional constraints of set schedules and minimum task commitments to provide a workspace designed for high-performing professionals who value autonomy. Our contributors choose the projects that align with their specific interests and expertise, deciding exactly when and how much they want to work. Whether you are looking to supplement your existing projects or dive deep into AI research full-time, this role provides the platform to apply your senior-level engineering skills to some of the most fascinating problems in the industry today.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn this role, your primary objective is to bridge the gap between complex software systems and AI training models. You will be expected to perform the following duties with a high degree of precision and independence:
- Rapidly build context and architectural understanding within large, multi-module codebases across various tech stacks, including JavaScript, Python, Go, C++, and Ruby.
- Analyze feature implementations to identify edge cases, logic errors, and potential vulnerabilities, ensuring that software behavior aligns with intended specifications.
- Evaluate and verify the correctness of AI-generated code, providing expert feedback to refine the accuracy and reliability of machine learning models.
- Develop and implement sophisticated approaches to test and validate software behavior in diverse environments.
- Produce clear, structured, and highly detailed documentation of your technical findings, rationales, and architectural insights to be used by research teams.
- Collaborate asynchronously with a global network of engineers to maintain high standards of code quality and research integrity.
We are seeking polyglot engineers who are comfortable navigating ambiguity and possess a deep passion for technical problem-solving. To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field is required.
- At least 2 years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, with a proven track record of working on complex, production-grade systems.
- Advanced proficiency in at least two or more major programming languages, such as Python, JavaScript, Go, C++, or Ruby, and the ability to quickly learn new ones.
- Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and professional documentation.
- Strong analytical skills and a methodical approach to debugging and code review, especially when dealing with unfamiliar or large-scale codebases.
- A self-motivated work ethic and the ability to manage your own time effectively in a fully remote, project-based environment.
Stellar AI offers a working environment that prioritizes talent and results over rigid structures. By joining our contributor network, you will enjoy:
- Competitive compensation at a flat rate of $70 per hour, paid for every hour of project work completed after passing the initial qualification.
- Total flexibility with no set schedules, no stand-ups, and no minimum time or task commitments—you are in full control of your workload.
- The opportunity to work from anywhere in the world, provided you are located in the US, UK, Canada, Europe, Australia, or New Zealand.
- Direct exposure to the forefront of AI research and the chance to influence the development of transformative technologies.
- A streamlined, project-based workflow that allows you to focus purely on engineering and problem-solving without corporate overhead.
