HighLevel is seeking an exceptionally skilled and visionary Staff Engineer to join our Platform Engineering group, where you will be instrumental in shaping the foundational infrastructure that powers millions of businesses across 150 countries. This role is tailored for an engineer who thrives in high-ambiguity environments and possesses a deep-seated passion for solving complex, large-scale distributed systems challenges. You will act as a force multiplier for our engineering organization, designing the shared frameworks and core services that enable our product teams to move faster and build more reliably. Beyond traditional backend engineering, you will lead the charge in integrating AI-powered development workflows to revolutionize our software development lifecycle (SDLC), ensuring that our developer experience remains world-class as we continue to expand our footprint in the AI-powered business operating system space.
Key Responsibilities- Architect, develop, and maintain high-performance reusable frameworks, SDKs, and core platform services primarily using Node.js and GoLang.
- Design and implement scalable, cloud-native solutions leveraging the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) ecosystem to support over 250 terabytes of distributed data.
- Drive technical design reviews and establish rigorous engineering best practices that ensure scalability, performance, security, and maintainability across 250+ microservices.
- Lead initiatives to integrate AI effectively into engineering workflows, including automated code generation, intelligent testing, incident analysis, and SDLC automation.
- Partner cross-functionally with product, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver reliable platform capabilities that empower a global team of over 2,000 members.
- Improve overall developer productivity by building internal tooling and engineering foundations that increase release velocity and system reliability.
- Take extreme ownership of critical platform initiatives, guiding them from initial architectural vision through to production operations and long-term maintenance.
- Mentor and coach senior engineers across multiple teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, clarity, and rapid execution.
- 9+ years of professional software engineering experience with a proven track record of building and scaling large-scale backend services and distributed systems.
- Deep expertise in designing and optimizing data-intensive applications and high-throughput workloads that handle massive concurrency.
- Strong proficiency in Node.js and GoLang, with a sophisticated understanding of microservices architecture, API design, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Advanced knowledge of observability frameworks and cloud infrastructure, specifically within Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Kubernetes environments.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI-assisted engineering workflows to improve developer experience and software delivery effectiveness.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to distill complex technical challenges into simple, maintainable, and elegant solutions.
- Proven ability to lead technically in a fast-paced, remote-first environment while navigating ambiguity and delivering impactful engineering outcomes.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures, service mesh technologies, and streaming systems is highly preferred.
