About the Role
As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer on our Personalization team, you will stand at the vibrant intersection of music understanding, advanced machine learning, and revolutionary user experience. At Spotify, we are redefining how listeners interact with audio by moving beyond static recommendations toward adaptive, conversational interfaces. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in architecting the systems that power conversational playlist generation, providing our hundreds of millions of global users with more intuitive control over their musical journeys. Key ResponsibilitiesYour primary mission will be to design, build, and evaluate LLM-based solutions that offer users more adaptive and nuanced control over their listening experiences. You will focus specifically on prompted playlist experiences, emphasizing music fulfillment and sophisticated session generation. This role requires a hands-on approach to prototyping new machine learning models and successfully transitioning them from experimental stages into high-performance production environments at a global scale.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners in user research, design, data science, and product engineering to deliver high-impact, personalized features.
- Architect and improve scalable ML systems that connect artists and fans through meaningful, data-driven discovery.
- Promote and implement industry best practices in ML system design, including rigorous testing, evaluation, and deployment strategies across the organization.
- Actively contribute to Spotify’s internal community of machine learning practitioners, sharing knowledge and driving technical excellence.
- Develop modular architectures and detailed technical specifications in partnership with product teams to ensure sustainable and flexible growth.

- Extensive experience in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Generative AI.
- Proven track record of building and deploying end-to-end ML systems at a massive scale.
- Deep familiarity with LLM-based systems and techniques for iterative improvement using human feedback, such as reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF), DPO, or similar approaches.
- Proficiency with large-scale distributed data processing tools, specifically Apache Beam or Apache Spark.
- Experience working within modern cloud ecosystems, such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or AWS.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively with non-technical stakeholders to align technical roadmaps with business goals.
