Software Engineer Payment Operations

About the Role

Wingspan is a Series B startup providing a payroll platform designed specifically for independent contractors. As a Software Engineer on the Payment Operations team, you will be responsible for the execution layer that ensures every dollar on the platform is accounted for, reconciled, and moved accurately on time.

What You'll Do:

• Design, develop, and ship internal systems and automation that eliminate operational toil.
• Build and maintain reconciliation infrastructure keeping ledgers, bank records, and transaction data in alignment.
• Develop monitoring and alerting systems to surface funding health issues and payment anomalies in real time.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Finance to translate recurring operational patterns into platform-level improvements.
• Contribute to the engineering culture through knowledge sharing and proactive system automation.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• 3+ years of experience in software engineering or engineering-adjacent roles with exposure to payment systems, backend services, or data pipelines.
• Strong SQL skills and comfort writing standalone scripts.
• Experience using AI tools such as Claude Code or OpenAI.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs and backend services, specifically Node.js.
