Senior Data Engineer

About the Role

Valon is transforming mortgage servicing and consumer direct lending with a technology-first approach. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to own all facets of data infrastructure, managing core systems, building custom ingestion pipelines, and architecting long-term strategy.

• Own and optimize core data infrastructure for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency as data volume grows.
• Design and extend multi-tenant data architectures to support a scalable SaaS model.
• Build or integrate observability tooling for pipeline health, latency, data freshness, and drift detection.
• Optimize data transformation jobs and refactor performance bottlenecks.
• Define the long-term data infrastructure roadmap and mentor the broader data team on best practices.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with platform and product teams to meet regulatory and operational requirements.

• 4+ years of data engineering experience, with at least 2 years in an early- to mid-stage startup.
• Deep knowledge and experience deploying and optimizing dbt or comparable tooling.
• Experience managing data warehouses, data marts, and data lakes (BigQuery/GCP preferred).
• Mastery of SQL and fluency in Python or similar scripting languages.
• Experience with EL connector solutions like Fivetran or Stitch and BI tools like Looker.
• Strong prioritization skills and the ability to reason about root causes across the data stack.
