About the Role
BitPay is looking for a visionary Senior Backend Software Developer to join our remote US-based engineering team. As the global leader in blockchain payment technology, we empower merchants and consumers across six continents with secure, seamless cryptocurrency solutions. In this role, you will take ownership of business-critical backend systems, architecting the infrastructure that powers the future of decentralized finance while ensuring the highest standards of security and reliability.
Key Responsibilities- Architect, develop, and maintain high-performance backend systems and APIs using Node.js and MongoDB.
- Collaborate with cross-functional product and engineering teams to design innovative features for global merchants and internal ecosystem tools.
- Uphold engineering excellence by implementing rigorous unit, integration, and functional testing alongside comprehensive code reviews.
- Solve complex technical challenges related to system scalability, reliability, and distributed logging in a high-traffic production environment.
- Act as a technical mentor to junior and mid-level developers, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
- Research and integrate emerging technologies and industry best practices to maintain BitPay’s competitive edge in the fintech space.
- Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering.
- Expert-level proficiency in Node.js and deep architectural knowledge of MongoDB.
- Proven track record of delivering production-ready, scalable APIs and backend services.
- Strong commitment to code quality, documentation, and the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a passion for optimizing system performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience with a portfolio of notable projects (e.g., GitHub).
- Highly preferred: Previous experience in the Blockchain or Fintech sectors.
