About the Role

As a Senior AI System Software Developer, you will join Canada’s largest fintech, trusted by over 3 million clients with more than $100 billion in assets, to build the next generation of AI-driven financial tools. This is not a research role; it is a hands-on, high-impact engineering position where you will design, develop, and operate the systems that bring artificial intelligence directly into the hands of our clients and internal teams through intelligent assistants and workflow automation. We move fast, own our work, and care deeply about the people using our products, and we are looking for a senior developer who shares that same drive and curiosity.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will be a core contributor to the AI Systems team, focusing on the end-to-end delivery of production-grade AI platforms. You will design, build, and operate first-party AI tools that serve both our internal departments and Wealthsimple clients, ensuring our systems remain reliable, scalable, and secure. Your work will involve developing full-stack features across React frontends and Golang backend services, delivering complete solutions from the user interface down to the data persistence layer.
You will work closely with stakeholders across product, engineering, and operations to identify high-value opportunities for AI integration. This includes building and maintaining containerized microservices within our AWS infrastructure and integrating large language models (LLMs) through well-designed APIs and service layers. You will also be expected to contribute significantly to platform architecture decisions, helping to shape how AI systems are built and operated company-wide. Beyond individual contributions, you will iterate quickly on new features and prototypes while balancing the speed of delivery with long-term maintainability. You will also establish patterns and best practices for AI system development, enabling other engineering teams to adopt these technologies efficiently as we continue to evolve our AI-assisted development workflows.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate is a seasoned software engineer with a proven track record of shipping production software in a full-stack or backend-focused capacity. You should possess strong proficiency in Golang and React, or have a demonstrated ability to master new languages and frameworks rapidly. We are looking for engineers who have hands-on experience with containerized architectures using Docker and Kubernetes, and who are familiar with cloud-native deployment patterns and AWS infrastructure.
An active interest in or professional experience with AI/ML systems, LLM integrations, or building AI-powered products is essential. You should be comfortable working across the entire stack, from crafting intuitive user interfaces to designing robust backend services and APIs with PostgreSQL and Redis. A product-oriented mindset is critical; you must care deeply about the end-user experience and be capable of translating business needs into high-quality software. Additionally, you should have clear communication skills and thrive in a fast-moving environment where priorities and technologies evolve quickly. Candidates with experience in RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) patterns, event-driven architectures, CI/CD pipelines, or financial services regulation will be highly regarded.
