About the Role

VOLT is revolutionizing the physical world through next-generation AI perception systems focused on safety, security, and real-time risk detection. As we scale toward our Series C, we are looking for a Senior Accountant who thrives in a high-growth environment and possesses the technical rigor to build a world-class finance function. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role where you will serve as a strategic partner to the CFO, moving beyond simple data entry to architecting the systems, processes, and internal controls that will support our rapid global expansion.

In this role, you will be responsible for the integrity of our financial data and the efficiency of our monthly close cycles. You will navigate the complexities of blended hardware and software revenue models, lead the charge on our first-ever external financial audit, and ensure that our financial operations are both scalable and defensible. If you are a process-driven professional who takes pride in clean ledgers and seeks the challenge of building a finance department from the ground up, Volt offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on a company tackling some of the hardest problems in AI today.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Close & Reporting: Spearhead significant portions of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, accruals, fixed assets, and balance sheet reconciliations to deliver a fast and defensible close.
  • Revenue Recognition: Drive accurate ASC 606 revenue recognition for multi-year, multi-element software and deployment contracts, partnering closely with Sales and Legal to review non-standard contract terms.
  • Audit Readiness: Lead the company through its first full external financial audit by owning PBC schedules, preparing technical memos, and managing direct interaction with external auditors.
  • Order-to-Cash (O2C): Oversee the full invoicing and collections lifecycle, ensuring accounts receivable are accurate and customer inquiries are resolved with professional excellence.
  • Procure-to-Pay (P2P): Manage accounts payable, vendor onboarding, and corporate expense programs while maintaining compliant documentation and spend controls.
  • Tax Compliance: Coordinate with external advisors to manage corporate income tax, multi-jurisdiction sales and use tax, and property tax filings, ensuring Volt remains compliant as we expand into new territories.
  • Payroll & Equity: Own the semi-monthly payroll function, including tax filings, benefits reconciliations, and equity compensation accounting in collaboration with People Operations.
  • Systems & Automation: Evaluate and optimize the finance tech stack, including ERP (NetSuite/Sage Intacct), billing automation, and expense management tools to eliminate manual bottlenecks.
  • Internal Controls: Document and implement scalable accounting policies and internal controls to prepare the organization for future SOC-readiness and long-term growth.
Qualifications
  • Accounting Expertise: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with a deep understanding of US GAAP and specific expertise in ASC 606 revenue recognition for SaaS or hardware-software models.
  • Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with modern ERP systems such as NetSuite or Sage Intacct, alongside fluency in payroll and AP automation platforms like Gusto, Rippling, or Bill.com.
  • Audit & Process Mastery: Demonstrated experience supporting external audits and a passion for creating clean workpapers and well-documented reconciliations.
  • Education & Certification: A Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance is required; a CPA license or Big 4 public accounting background is highly preferred.
  • Industry Context: Experience scaling accounting operations within a Series B or Series C startup environment is a significant plus.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to translate complex financial concepts for non-finance stakeholders and maintain strong relationships with auditors and vendors.
Benefits

Volt offers a competitive salary range of $90,000 - $100,000 per year, commensurate with experience. We are a mission-driven team that values direct feedback, urgent execution, and customer-centricity. Our culture is built on the principle of "Building the Impossible," and we provide our employees with the autonomy and resources needed to tackle hard problems. As a remote-first company, we prioritize clear communication and provide a flexible environment where top-tier talent can thrive.
