Key ResponsibilitiesYour primary objective is to manage the safe passage of school children across designated roads. This requires a high level of alertness, professionalism, and commitment to public safety. Your core duties will include:
- Controlling and directing traffic at crossing areas using authorized signage and equipment to ensure safe gaps for pedestrians.
- Supervising and managing the behavior of children waiting at crossing points, ensuring they follow safety protocols before entering the roadway.
- Operating hazard warning signs and equipment in accordance with regional safety standards and the EA manual of instructions.
- Identifying and reporting any roadside hazards, infrastructure issues, or suspicious activities to the Transport Officer to maintain a safe environment.
- Maintaining accurate administrative records and paperwork as required by the Education Authority.
- Adhering strictly to the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978 and all relevant statutory instruments and codes of practice.
- Representing the Education Authority's values of equality and excellence in service delivery during every interaction with the public.
To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate a mix of practical skills and a commitment to the safety and well-being of young people. The following criteria will be used for shortlisting and interview stages:
- Willingness to Train: A clear commitment to undertake all job-related training provided by the Education Authority.
- Road Safety Awareness: Demonstrable knowledge of road safety principles and traffic awareness to effectively manage vehicle flow.
- Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate clearly with children, parents, and motorists.
- Initiative: The ability to use your own initiative while strictly following established safety procedures and legal regulations.
- Experience (Desirable): Previous experience working with children or in a public-facing role is highly advantageous but not strictly required.
- Values Alignment: An approach to work that reflects the EA ethos of removing barriers to learning and ensuring equality for all children.
