About the Role

The Opendak Lab at the Kennedy Krieger Institute is seeking a highly organized and analytically-minded Research Assistant I to join our team in a fully remote, part-time capacity. Key Responsibilities

The primary focus of this role is the execution of sophisticated statistical analyses on diverse datasets, including behavioral, electrophysiological, and imaging data. You will work closely under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure that all analyses align with the labs rigorous research standards and project goals. This includes the development and maintenance of organized, well-documented data pipelines that facilitate reproducible research.

  • Process and clean raw data from various sources, ensuring data integrity and consistency across all spreadsheets and analysis files.
  • Maintain and organize structured data files using Microsoft Excel and other analytical software to ensure ease of access for the entire research team.
  • Create high-quality figures, graphs, and complex data visualizations intended for inclusion in peer-reviewed manuscripts, conference presentations, and grant applications.
  • Contribute written and analytical components to the preparation of publications and progress reports for funding agencies.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to undergraduate data analysts, offering guidance on analysis theory, implementation techniques, and best practices in data handling.
  • Participate in regular remote lab meetings and check-ins to provide progress updates, coordinate with team members, and discuss emerging research findings.
  • Stay current with emerging trends in neuroscience data analysis by participating in professional development programs, workshops, and scientific seminars.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background and a demonstrated interest in the technical aspects of neuroscience research. We are looking for an individual who is meticulous with data and capable of managing multiple analytical tasks with minimal supervision in a remote environment.

  • A Bachelors degree in a science-related field is required, with preference given to degrees in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics.
  • Prior research experience involving quantitative data analysis is strongly preferred, particularly experience with biological or behavioral datasets.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, including the ability to manage complex spreadsheets and utilize advanced functions for data organization.
