About the Role

At Stio, our people are the heartbeat of the brand. As our People & Culture Business Partner, you will serve as the primary advocate and strategist for our employees and managers, ensuring a high-quality, consistent experience across our 25-state footprint. This role sits at the critical intersection of people, process, and policy, requiring a professional who can navigate complex employee relations with warmth, rigor, and a deep commitment to our mountain-inspired culture. You will be the first point of contact for workplace concerns, a champion for compliance, and a key partner in building the confidence of our people leaders.

As a steward of the Stio brand, you will manage the full employee lifecycle for our corporate and retail teams, ensuring our values of inclusion and environmental responsibility are reflected in every HR interaction. Whether you are guiding a manager through a performance conversation, streamlining recruiting operations, or navigating the nuances of multi-state employment law, your work will directly impact the stability and growth of our 220+ person team. This is a dynamic role for an HR professional who thrives on variety and is passionate about protecting the resources—both natural and human—that make the mountain lifestyle possible.

Key Responsibilities
  • Employee Relations & Partnership: Serve as the lead HR point of contact for employees and managers, providing expert guidance on policies, conflict resolution, and workplace concerns with total discretion.
  • Retail HR Support: Partner directly with Retail Area Managers and Mountain Studio locations to support day-to-day people matters in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Talent & Performance Management: Own full-cycle recruiting operations for corporate roles at the manager level and below, while delivering a world-class onboarding experience that covers a new hire's first 90 days.
  • Compliance Infrastructure: Monitor and implement federal and state employment law changes across 25 jurisdictions, maintaining handbooks, harassment prevention training, and required workplace postings in real-time.
  • Process Excellence: Oversee the end-to-end onboarding and offboarding lifecycle, manage leave of absence programs, and administer workers' compensation claims from filing to return-to-work.
  • Leadership Coaching: Support managers with performance coaching, documentation, and performance improvement plans (PIPs) to build stronger, more effective teams.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive HR experience, specifically within HRBP, HR Generalist, or People Operations roles.
  • Multi-State Expertise: Proven experience supporting workforces across multiple states with a firm grasp of diverse jurisdictional employment laws.
  • Retail Knowledge: Background in supporting multi-location retail environments is required for this role.
  • Technical Proficiency: High comfort level with HRIS systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred), ATS platforms (Workable), and project management tools like Asana and Google Suite.
  • Soft Skills: Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to manage sensitive investigations and performance matters with care.
  • Mission Alignment: A genuine passion for the outdoors and a commitment to Stio’s mission regarding sustainability and inclusivity.
  • Education/Certification: SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is highly preferred.
Benefits
  • Compensation: Competitive base salary range of $80,000 - $95,000, commensurate with experience and skills.
  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision plans plus company-paid Long Term Disability and Employee Assistance Program.
  • Retirement: 401k program with company matching to support your long-term financial goals.
  • Work-Life Balance: Generous paid time off policies and a culture that encourages spending time outside.
  • Perks: Gear testing opportunities, employee discounts, and involvement in our Culture Committee.
