Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret job order tickets with precision and utilize sophisticated electromagnetic locating equipment to accurately identify underground utilities.
  • Read and analyze complex blueprints, maps, and construction drawings to guide field operations and ensure precise markings of fiber optics, hydro, and water lines.
  • Plan efficient travel routes between various urban and rural sites, managing time effectively to meet strict project timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Operate specialized testing and locating tools to pinpoint facilities and monitor active excavation sites to prevent utility damage from heavy machinery.
  • Generate professional digital drawings and reports using Microsoft Visio to document findings and provide clear guidance for construction and maintenance teams.
  • Work independently in the field while adhering to high standards of accuracy, productivity, and occupational health and safety protocols.
  • Maintain company-issued vehicles, testing equipment, and tools in optimal working condition through regular inspections and proactive care.
  • Collaborate with project managers and onsite contractors to ensure all underground facilities are identified prior to the commencement of excavation work.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years of professional experience in utility locating, specifically across multiple utility types including gas, water, and telecommunications.
  • Mandatory completion of the ORCGA Damage Prevention Technician (DPT) certification.
  • Deep technical knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure and utility network layouts.
  • Possession of a valid Full G drivers license with a clean driving record and the ability to safely operate a company-provided utility van.
  • High level of proficiency with digital tools and computer applications, including experience with Microsoft Visio and ticket management software.
  • Exceptional organizational and self-motivation skills, with a proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong physical stamina, capable of working outdoors in diverse weather conditions and navigating varied terrains such as ditches and construction zones.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, allowing for clear documentation and professional interaction with clients and teammates.

Work Environment and Conditions

This role is primarily field-based and site-remote, requiring daily travel throughout London and surrounding areas. Candidates must be prepared to work in a variety of environments, ranging from residential neighborhoods to industrial sites and active construction zones. The nature of the work involves navigating challenging terrains such as ditches, gravel, and unpaved areas, as well as performing duties outdoors in all weather conditions. While the standard schedule is Monday to Friday, occasional Saturday shifts and overnight out-of-town assignments for training or specialized projects may be required.
