About the Role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking proactive and analytical Online Volunteers to support our mission in Venezuela by monitoring the complex information landscape with a specific focus on migration and humanitarian activities. This is a high-impact opportunity to provide strategic communication support and risk management insights to the leading intergovernmental organization in the field of migration. By analyzing news trends and social media narratives, you will directly contribute to the safety, dignity, and well-being of migrants and host communities across the region. This role requires a commitment of 16 to 20 hours per week over a 12-week duration, allowing you to contribute to a global cause from any location.

Key Responsibilities

As an Online Volunteer, you will play a critical role in tracking and analyzing the media ecosystem to support IOM�s strategic decision-making and operational response. Your primary focus will be on identifying news, trends, and public sentiment related to human mobility, protection, health, and governance within Venezuela and its key border regions.

• Conduct comprehensive daily monitoring of national, regional, and international media outlets to identify relevant news regarding migration and IOM activities.
• Track social media platforms to detect emerging narratives, public sentiment, and trends related to humanitarian assistance, WASH, and protection risks.
• Produce and deliver a professional daily news bulletin (Monday through Friday) featuring curated headlines, concise summaries, and direct links to relevant articles.
• Identify and issue immediate alerts regarding critical issues, including reputational risks, sensitive mentions of the organization, or urgent protection concerns.
• Monitor news specifically focused on key geographic areas including Zulia, Bol�var, T�chira, Amazonas, Caracas, Apure, and Falc�n.
• Collaborate with inter-agency communication groups within the United Nations system to ensure aligned and effective information monitoring.

Qualifications

We are seeking detail-oriented individuals with a strong background in media analysis, journalism, or social research who are passionate about humanitarian work. Successful candidates will possess the following skills and experience:

• Academic background or professional experience in Communications, Journalism, Data Analysis, Social Sciences, or a related field.
• Proven ability to identify relevant information and synthesize large amounts of data into clear, concise, and professional summaries.
• Proficiency in using digital monitoring tools, social media analytics, and information verification techniques to combat misinformation.
• Strong technical skills in keyword-based searching and thematic classification methodologies for structured reporting.
• Native or advanced proficiency in Spanish (obligatory) with exceptional written communication and editing skills.
• The discipline and self-motivation to work effectively in a remote, task-based environment while meeting strict daily deadlines.
• A deep interest in human rights, migration issues, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
