As our Manager of Cost Accounting, you will play a critical role in the financial health of our organization by managing the intricate details of our global supply chain costs and inventory valuation. In this capacity, you will serve as the subject matter expert for all things related to cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory. You will collaborate closely with our Supply Chain, Logistics, and Operations teams to ensure that our financial records reflect the physical reality of our global inventory movements. Beyond the numbers, you will be a key contributor to our financial strategy, helping to identify cost-saving opportunities and providing the data-driven insights necessary for senior leadership to make informed decisions. Key Responsibilities- Lead the global cost accounting function, including the development and maintenance of standard costs for all products and components.
- Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes specifically related to inventory, COGS, and manufacturing variances.
- Perform detailed analysis of manufacturing variances, including price and usage variances, and partner with production teams to resolve discrepancies.
- Oversee the reconciliation of perpetual inventory records to the general ledger across multiple global warehouses and third-party logistics providers.
- Develop and maintain robust internal controls over inventory valuation, cycle counting, and physical inventory audits.
- Analyze gross margins by product line and channel, providing insightful commentary on fluctuations and trends to the executive team.
- Collaborate with the Supply Chain team to track inbound freight, duties, and overhead allocations, ensuring accurate landed cost calculations.
- Lead the transition and optimization of cost accounting modules within our ERP system (NetSuite) to enhance automation and reporting capabilities.
- Support external audit requests by providing detailed schedules, documentation, and explanations for inventory and cost-related queries.
- Assist in the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for inventory levels and gross margin projections.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a Master’s degree or CPA/CMA certification is highly preferred.
- A minimum of 6–8 years of professional accounting experience, with at least 4 years specifically focused on cost accounting within a manufacturing or CPG environment.
- Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and specialized knowledge in inventory valuation methods and cost absorption techniques.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems, with a strong preference for candidates who have extensive experience using NetSuite.
- Expert-level Excel skills, including the ability to build complex financial models and manage large datasets with accuracy.
- Proven track record of operating effectively in a fully remote environment, demonstrating high levels of self-motivation and communication.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable business insights.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate across different departments and time zones.
- Experience in an e-commerce or high-growth retail environment is considered a significant advantage.
