About the Role

Linear is a company dedicated to building high-quality software tools that teams actually enjoy using. We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer who is passionate about their craft and eager to shape the future of project management. At Linear, we value speed, precision, and a high bar for user experience. As an integral member of our engineering team, you will have the opportunity to work across the entire stack, from building fluid user interfaces in React to architecting robust backend systems with Node.js and PostgreSQL. This is a remote-first position where you will collaborate with a world-class team of designers and engineers to solve complex problems and deliver impactful features to our global user base.

Key Responsibilities

As a Full Stack Engineer at Linear, you will be responsible for the end-to-end development of core product features. You will translate complex product requirements into elegant, functional code while ensuring the highest standards of performance and reliability. Your day-to-day will involve collaborating closely with designers to implement pixel-perfect interfaces and working with fellow engineers to design scalable backend architectures. You will also take ownership of the technical roadmap for specific product areas, identifying opportunities for improvement and driving architectural decisions that support long-term growth.

  • Design, build, and maintain high-performance features across the full application lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with the product and design teams to define specifications and deliver a world-class user experience.
  • Optimize the frontend and backend for maximum speed, scalability, and responsiveness.
  • Write clean, well-documented, and testable code while participating in rigorous peer code reviews.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the entire stack.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our engineering practices, tooling, and internal workflows.
  • Iterate quickly based on user feedback to refine product functionality and usability.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced engineer who brings a balance of technical expertise and product intuition. You should have a proven track record of building and scaling modern web applications and a deep understanding of the full software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a remote environment, is highly self-motivated, and possesses the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • At least 4 years of professional experience in full-stack software development.
  • Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
  • Significant experience working with PostgreSQL and optimizing complex database queries.
  • Deep understanding of GraphQL and its implementation in large-scale applications.
  • Familiarity with modern frontend state management and performance optimization techniques.
  • Strong architectural thinking and the ability to design systems that are both flexible and resilient.
  • A passion for building high-quality products and a keen eye for design and user experience details.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, essential for a distributed team.

Benefits

At Linear, we believe in providing our team with the environment and resources they need to do their best work. As a remote-first organization, we offer a culture of trust and autonomy, allowing you to manage your own schedule and work from wherever you are most productive. We are committed to investing in our people and providing a comprehensive benefits package that supports both professional growth and personal well-being.

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity in a fast-growing company.
  • Flexible remote work environment with a stipend for home office setup or co-working space.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance options.
  • Generous paid time off and parental leave policies.
  • Budget for professional development, including books, courses, and conferences.
  • The opportunity to work with high-end hardware and the latest software tools.
  • Regular team offsites to build connections and collaborate in person.
  • A culture that prioritizes deep work, minimal meetings, and high-impact output.
