Role
About the Role
HealthCorps is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving lives by addressing health challenges in communities through innovative programming for teens. As our Learning & Development Specialist, you will serve as the essential connective tissue between curriculum design and program delivery. You will empower our near-peer mentors—many of whom are pre-health students—to become confident, skilled facilitators and relatable role models. By coaching these future healthcare professionals, you will ensure our health education content lands effectively with students while building a professional development engine that shapes the mentors' future careers.
Key Responsibilities- Drive Mentor Training & Development: Design and deliver comprehensive onboarding and ongoing professional development that prepares mentors to navigate diverse settings, including large classrooms and small club environments.
- Content Creation: Develop practical, mentor-ready resources such as instructional videos, how-to guides, and interactive templates tailored for a college-aged audience.
- Curriculum Partnership: Review and pressure-test new lesson plans to ensure they are realistic for field implementation, providing feedback to the curriculum team on logistics, timing, and supply needs.
- Innovative Delivery: Experiment with modern training formats including short-form video, push notifications, podcasts, and LMS modules to meet mentors where they are digitally.
- Field Observation: Spend 10-15% of your time in the field observing mentors to ensure training remains responsive, practical, and grounded in real-world dynamics.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with Regional Program Managers and the data evaluation team to identify training gaps and improve program fidelity scores.
- Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in education, instructional design, youth development, public health, or corporate training and coaching.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Mentorship Skills: Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate young adults, specifically college students, with a supportive and empowering coaching style.
- Technical Proficiency: High comfort level with Learning Management Systems (LearnUpon preferred), video editing tools, and design platforms like Canva.
- Instructional Design: Strong understanding of adult learning principles and the ability to apply them to fast-paced, time-constrained environments.
- Adaptability: A creative problem-solver who thrives in build-from-scratch environments and is energized by ambiguity.
- Travel: Ability to travel nationally (approximately 10-15%) for field observations and team meetings.
- Compensation: Competitive salary of $50,000 - $55,000 based on experience and location.
- Health & Wellness: Comprehensive Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance plans.
- Financial Security: 401(k) plan with company matching and employer-paid life insurance.
- Work-Life Balance: Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) policy and recognition of most federal holidays.
- Remote Flexibility: A fully remote work environment with a focus on impact and collaboration across multiple states.
