About the Role
HealthCorps is looking for a dynamic and creative Learning & Development Specialist to serve as the connective tissue between our innovative health curriculum and the impactful delivery by our near-peer mentors. In this remote role, you will be the primary architect of the mentor training experience, ensuring that our college-aged facilitators have the confidence, technical skills, and pedagogical tools needed to inspire middle and high school students across the country. You will join a mission-obsessed team dedicated to addressing health disparities through education, leadership, and service learning, playing a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of public health and healthcare professionals.
As the specialist leading our training initiatives, you will go beyond traditional corporate onboarding. You will design engaging, mobile-friendly content that resonates with Gen Z learners, including short-form videos, interactive modules, and professional development sessions. By partnering closely with our curriculum and program teams, you will pressure-test new lessons for real-world feasibility and provide the instructional coaching necessary to maintain high program fidelity. Key Responsibilities- Mentor Training & Onboarding: Design and deliver comprehensive onboarding programs that prepare mentors for diverse educational settings, ranging from large classroom environments to intimate club-based workshops.
- Content Development: Create practical, mentor-ready resources including instructional videos, how-to guides, quick-reference templates, and interactive LMS modules tailored for college students.
- Curriculum Partnership: Collaborate with the curriculum team to review new lesson plans for clarity and feasibility, ensuring activities fit within 60-minute windows and utilize available supplies.
- Continuous Coaching: Lead monthly professional development sessions, host virtual office hours, and provide supportive feedback to mentors to help them master classroom management and student engagement.
- Data-Driven Improvement: Work with the evaluation team to identify areas where mentors struggle, using fidelity scores and feedback to iterate on training materials and delivery methods.
- Field Research: Spend 10-15% of your time observing program delivery firsthand to ensure training remains responsive to the evolving needs of students and mentors.
- Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience in instructional design, youth development, curriculum development, public health education, or a related training role.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Technical Proficiency: High comfort level with Learning Management Systems (LearnUpon preferred), video editing software, and design tools like Canva.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional facilitation skills with the ability to lead engaging live sessions via Zoom or Teams and translate complex curriculum into actionable training steps.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to apply instructional design frameworks practically within time-constrained and ambiguous community settings.
- Cultural Competency: Demonstrated ability to engage and motivate young adults and college students from diverse backgrounds.
- Logistics: Ability to travel nationally (10-15%) for site observations and team meetings.
