About the Role

HealthCorps is a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving teen health through innovative education, leadership, and service-learning programs. As our Learning & Development Specialist, you will serve as the connective tissue between our high-impact curriculum and the college-age mentors who bring it to life in schools across the country. This remote role is a professional development engine, designed to coach young adults—many of whom are future healthcare professionals—to become confident, skilled facilitators of health education while ensuring our program administration remains best-in-class.

Key Responsibilities

As the owner of the mentor training experience, you will design and implement a comprehensive development strategy that reaches college students where they are, using modern and engaging modalities.

  • Drive Mentor Training & Development: Design and deliver onboarding programs that prepare mentors for diverse settings, including large classrooms and small clubs. You will facilitate ongoing professional development through office hours, live monthly sessions, and personalized coaching.
  • Content Creation: Develop practical, mentor-ready resources such as short-form videos, how-to guides, and quick-reference templates optimized for how digital natives consume information.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner with the Curriculum Team to pressure-test lesson plans for real-world feasibility, ensuring activities fit within 60-minute windows and available supplies.
  • Data-Driven Improvement: Collaborate with the evaluation team to analyze fidelity scores and mentor feedback, identifying areas where training can bridge performance gaps.
  • Field Observation: Spend 10-15% of your time in the field observing mentors in action, using these insights to refine training materials and make them more responsive to actual student needs.
  • Program Administration: Build mentor fluency in essential administrative tasks, including activity logs, proof of programming, and site communication protocols.

Qualifications

We are looking for a creative problem-solver who thrives in build-from-scratch environments and understands the nuances of motivating young adult learners.

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Public Health, or a related field, plus at least 3 years of hands-on experience in training, coaching, or youth development.
  • Instructional Design: Strong ability to apply adult learning principles practically to real-world, time-constrained training contexts.
  • Tech Savviness: Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as LearnUpon, and creative tools like Canva for video and asset creation.
  • Facilitation Skills: Exceptional ability to lead engaging live training sessions and provide supportive yet honest feedback to help others grow.
  • Cultural Competency: Passion for addressing health disparities and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with college-aged populations.
  • Mobility: Flexibility to travel nationally approximately 10-15% of the time for field observations and organizational meetings.

Benefits

HealthCorps believes our people are our power, and we provide a comprehensive package to support your well-being and professional growth.

  • Competitive Salary: A salaried position ranging from $50,000 to $55,000, depending on experience and location.
  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance coverage for you and your family.
  • Financial Security: 401(k) plan with company matching and life insurance.
  • Work-Life Balance: Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and observance of most federal holidays.
  • Remote Flexibility: The ability to work from home with a supportive, mission-obsessed national team.
