About the Role
The Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat, a globally recognized wellness community established in 1968, is looking for a versatile and proactive Handyman to join our operations team on Paradise Island, Bahamas. In this role, you will be the primary guardian of our physical infrastructure, ensuring that our facilities remain in peak condition to support the transformative experiences of our guests and residents. Whether you are working on a project basis or as an ongoing member of our support staff, your technical expertise and commitment to quality will directly contribute to the serene and functional atmosphere of our spiritual retreat center.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a critical member of our maintenance team, you will handle a diverse range of facility needs, from urgent repairs to preventative upkeep. Your daily impact will include:
- General Plumbing Maintenance: Diagnosing and resolving issues within guest rooms and communal areas, including replacing faucets, clearing clogged drains, repairing toilet mechanisms, and fixing minor leaks to prevent water waste.
- Basic Electrical Support: Safely troubleshooting minor electrical malfunctions, replacing outdated light fixtures, and updating outlets or switches to maintain safety standards.
- Carpentry and Structural Repairs: Repairing or replacing doors, cabinets, and shelving units, as well as handling hardware replacements and general woodwork to ensure all fixtures are secure and functional.
- Drywall and Painting: Performing high-quality interior and exterior touch-ups, including patching holes, sanding surfaces, and repairing drywall damage to maintain the aesthetic integrity of the property.
- Tiling and Masonry: Restoring damaged floor and wall tiles, regrouting high-traffic areas, and sealing surfaces to protect against tropical moisture and wear.
- Resource Management: Managing a daily task list independently, identifying necessary materials for purchase, and collaborating with retreat management to prioritize urgent repairs.
We are seeking a detail-oriented professional who takes pride in craftsmanship and thrives in a mission-driven environment. The ideal candidate meets the following requirements:
- Proven Professional Experience: Extensive background as a Handyman, Maintenance Technician, or in a similar multi-disciplinary trade role.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert hands-on ability with standard hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment for plumbing and electrical diagnostics.
- Attention to Detail: A commitment to delivering neat, professional results, particularly in finishing work like painting, tiling, and cabinetry.
- Self-Motivation: The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing time effectively across a large property.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to interact professionally with both international guests and diverse staff members.
- Legal Authorization: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in The Bahamas, possessing valid citizenship, permanent residency, or a current work permit.
