About the Role

The Township of Langley is currently seeking disciplined, observant, and highly professional individuals to join our team as Guards within the Police Services department. This critical role involves maintaining the safety, security, and well-being of persons in custody while supporting law enforcement operations. As a Guard, you will work in a fast-paced environment that requires sharp attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. • Conduct regular physical inspections and monitoring of individuals in custody to ensure their continuous health and safety.
• Process the intake and release of prisoners, ensuring all administrative documentation and personal property records are completed with high accuracy.
• Maintain detailed and chronological logs of activities, incidents, and prisoner movements within the facility.
• Coordinate and supervise the distribution of meals and prescribed medications as authorized by medical personnel.
• Facilitate secure communication between persons in custody and legal counsel or authorized visitors.
• Assist law enforcement officers with search procedures and the securing of personal effects upon booking.
• Monitor security surveillance systems and report any suspicious activity or maintenance requirements immediately.
• Adhere strictly to departmental policies, provincial legislation, and safety protocols to mitigate risk within the holding facility.

• Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, corrections, or a high-responsibility custodial environment is strongly preferred.
• Possession of a valid Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate (or the ability to obtain one).
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective reporting and conflict de-escalation.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
• Physical capability to stand for extended periods and perform routine security rounds.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a high-level security clearance required for working within police services.
• A high degree of reliability and the flexibility to work in a 24/7 rotational shift environment.
