The Grid Operator at Bahamas Grid Company is a cornerstone position dedicated to the real-time monitoring and strategic control of the electrical distribution network across New Providence. Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Grid Operator, your primary focus is the continuous oversight and optimization of the electrical distribution system. You will utilize industry-leading SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and OMS (Outage Management Systems) software to monitor system performance and respond immediately to any abnormalities. Your expertise will be vital in executing approved switching orders, ensuring total compliance with safety procedures, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) protocols, and established engineering standards. Beyond routine monitoring, you will act as a central coordinator during service interruptions, orchestrating rapid restoration efforts and communicating critical updates to field crews, engineering leadership, and external stakeholders.
- Monitor and control the electrical distribution system in real-time to ensure uninterrupted service delivery across the region.
- Respond promptly to system alarms, outages, and abnormalities, initiating restoration protocols to minimize downtime.
- Execute complex switching sequences and load transfers while maintaining the highest safety and engineering standards.
- Coordinate planned maintenance outages and service restorations with field teams and construction crews.
- Maintain exhaustive and accurate system logs, event reports, and digital records using modern assisted tools.
- Provide real-time situational updates to leadership during severe weather events or major system disturbances.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to review feeder loadings, voltage performance, and overall system capacity.
- Support the implementation of grid modernization initiatives, including the integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and automation technology.
- Ensure full regulatory compliance with all safety and operational requirements of the utility sector.

- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a closely related technical field.
- A minimum of 57 years of professional experience in power system operations, utility control rooms, or electrical engineering support.
- Direct experience with SCADA, OMS, and related power system control software is highly preferred.
- Comprehensive understanding of distribution switching, outage management, and utility-scale safety protocols.
- Familiarity with emerging grid modernization technologies, automation, and system resiliency efforts.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in high-pressure situations.
- A valid Bahamian drivers license and the flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Superior communication skills to interact professionally with government entities, engineering teams, and field partners.
