About the Role

Fusemachines is seeking a high-impact Applied AI Engineer (Automation) to join our mission of democratizing artificial intelligence. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for building the intelligent systems that define the future of business operations. We are looking for a technical expert who thrives on solving complex problems and translating abstract business needs into robust, scalable, and production-ready AI-driven solutions. You will navigate the entire software development lifecycle, from initial requirements gathering and rapid prototyping to full-scale production deployment and continuous optimization.

As a mid-to-senior individual contributor, you will act as a technical leader, collaborating closely with Solutions Architects, Delivery leads, and Product Managers to deliver automation that moves the needle for our clients. We value engineers who do not just write code but deeply understand the underlying business logic required to make AI truly transformative. Whether you are architecting sophisticated agentic workflows or building advanced retrieval systems, your work will directly contribute to the success and technological evolution of our diverse global clientele.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and Deploy: Design, develop, and implement tailored AI and automation solutions that align specifically with client objectives and long-term business goals.
  • Build Advanced Workflows: Translate complex business problems into production-grade services using Python, automation platforms like n8n, Make, or Zapier, and leading LLM APIs such as OpenAI, IBM watsonx.ai, and Amazon Bedrock.
  • Develop Agentic Systems: Build and maintain sophisticated agentic workflows using LangChain, LangGraph, and Google ADK, focusing on tool calling, structured outputs, and autonomous decision-making.
  • Knowledge and Retrieval Systems: Implement robust Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines utilizing vector databases like Pinecone and pgvector, as well as Elasticsearch and graph databases.
  • Scale and Harden: Transition fast-moving prototypes into hardened, scalable systems with a focus on testing, reliability, comprehensive monitoring, and maintainability.
  • Strategic Client Partnership: Participate in discovery sessions and technical demonstrations, clearly communicating technical trade-offs and performance metrics to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement: Monitor and iterate on deployed solutions through prompt engineering, model fine-tuning, and the integration of additional automation layers to ensure peak performance.
  • Technical Documentation: Produce high-quality technical documentation and internal playbooks to facilitate knowledge sharing and the reuse of components across various projects.
Qualifications
  • Professional Experience: 3 to 8 years of proven experience in software or AI engineering, with at least 2 to 3 years specifically focused on AI automation, Generative AI, or Agentic AI.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced Python engineering skills with significant experience building and maintaining APIs and backend services using frameworks like FastAPI.
  • AI Implementation: Hands-on experience integrating Large Language Models (LLMs) into production environments, including deep knowledge of prompt design, structured output handling, and model evaluation techniques.
  • Automation Expertise: Proficiency with at least one major workflow automation platform (n8n, Make, or Zapier) and a track record of building reliable third-party integrations.
  • Data and Retrieval: Solid understanding of RAG fundamentals, including embeddings, vector search, and familiarity with technologies such as Pinecone, Elasticsearch, or Graph Databases.
  • DevOps Fundamentals: Strong experience with production engineering basics, including Docker, cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure), and asynchronous queuing patterns using Celery, Redis, or Kafka.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead technical calls, perform client demos, and work effectively in a cross-functional, remote-first environment.
Benefits
  • Global Impact: Work on high-visibility AI projects that drive digital transformation for leading organizations across various industries.
  • Remote Flexibility: Enjoy a fully remote work environment that prioritizes work-life balance and results over desk time.
  • Professional Growth: Access to continuous learning opportunities, including the latest tools in LLM orchestration, agentic frameworks, and AI governance.
  • Inclusive Culture: Join a diverse, global team at Fusemachines where inclusion and equity are core values in our mission to democratize AI.
  • Competitive Compensation: Receive a competitive salary and benefits package designed to support your career development and personal well-being.
