Better Futures Multi Academy Trust is offering a unique opportunity for a visionary Full Stack Developer to take the helm of two high-impact digital products: ARC and Swaya. While most development roles involve maintaining existing legacy systems, this position invites you to shape the future of tools that are actively transforming leadership development and student engagement within the education sector. Operating as a lean startup within the security and stability of a well-resourced public sector organization, we offer the rare combination of creative autonomy and long-term professional stability.
As the primary developer, you will be more than just a coder; you will be a product owner. ARC is our comprehensive 360-degree leadership platform that translates feedback into actionable behavioral change, while Swaya is a dedicated student feedback application for iOS and Android. Both products are currently live with a paying client base, and we are looking for a developer who can bridge the gap between a promising prototype and a powerful, scalable industry standard. You will work directly with the founders to influence the roadmap and ensure our technical architecture aligns with our ambitious growth goals.
Key Responsibilities- Take full technical ownership of the ARC and Swaya platforms, overseeing the entire development lifecycle from concept to deployment.
- Iterate on and improve a robust codebase built on Ruby on Rails and React, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability.
- Manage the deployment and continuous updates for mobile applications on both iOS and Android platforms.
- Collaborate closely with product founders to define the strategic roadmap and translate user feedback into functional features.
- Identify and resolve complex UX/UI challenges to ensure an intuitive and seamless experience for students and educational leaders.
- Maintain high code quality through rigorous testing and best practices, ensuring the products remain reliable for our growing client list.
- Balance rapid feature shipping with long-term technical health, making informed decisions on tech debt and architecture.
- Proven professional experience working with Ruby on Rails in a production environment.
- Strong proficiency in React and a keen eye for modern UI/UX design principles to deliver polished frontend experiences.
- Demonstrated experience in mobile app development and management for iOS and Android, utilizing frameworks such as React Native, Flutter, or native languages.
- A product-centric mindset with the ability to think beyond technical tickets and understand the broader business and user objectives.
- Resilience in the face of ambiguity and a proactive approach to learning new technologies or solving unfamiliar problems.
- Must be based in the UK with existing right to work; sponsorship is not available for this position.
- Ability to travel occasionally to the UK Midlands for in-person collaboration sessions.
- A flexible 0.6 FTE schedule (3 days per week) with a pro-rata salary of £25,200 - £30,000, based on a £42,000 - £50,000 full-time equivalent.
