About the Role
Pagemasters North America (PMNA), a leading subsidiary of The Canadian Press, is looking for a versatile and skilled temporary part-time Copy Editor and Paginator to join our high-energy production team. This is a unique opportunity for a journalism professional to contribute to the high-quality output of a major American print newspaper client while working from the comfort of their home anywhere within Canada. Key Responsibilities- Execute precise copy editing, proofreading, and layout design for print newspaper pages to ensure the highest editorial standards.
- Craft compelling, accurate headlines and engaging display copy that capture reader interest and maintain publication integrity.
- Utilize strong news judgment to prioritize content and manage page flow effectively under tight daily deadlines.
- Maintain superior communication and customer service standards when collaborating with internal team members and external clients.
- Ensure meticulous attention to detail in all facets of page production, including the packaging and optimization of news stories.
- Adapt to a dynamic schedule that includes evening shifts (ending as late as 12:30 a.m. ET) and regular weekend coverage.
- A solid background in journalism with proven experience in copy editing and print newspaper design.
- Demonstrated ability to write punchy, accurate headlines and manage complex editorial content.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a remote, fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills with a focus on collaborative problem-solving.
- Prior experience editing sports-related content is considered a significant asset.
- Candidates must currently reside in Canada and be available to work one to three shifts per week.
- Competitive wage grid ranging from approximately $21.00 to $25.00 per hour.
