The Village of Paw Paw is seeking a dedicated and community-minded professional to join our Department of Public Services (DPS) as a DPS Employee II. In this position, you will be responsible for a wide range of municipal maintenance tasks, ranging from the upkeep of public parks to the technical repair of water and sewer distribution systems. Key Responsibilities- Execute routine and emergency maintenance and repairs on village streets, including asphalt patching, signage installation, and general right-of-way clearing.
- Maintain and beautify village parks and public green spaces through landscaping, equipment inspection, and facility upkeep.
- Assist in the operation and maintenance of the sanitary sewer system, including cleaning sewer lines and performing routine inspections of sewer lift stations.
- Participate in the installation, repair, and monitoring of water distribution lines and related infrastructure to ensure consistent service delivery.
- Operate heavy machinery and specialized equipment such as leaf vacuums, brush chippers, and snow removal vehicles during seasonal maintenance cycles.
- Conduct regular brush and leaf pickup services to maintain clean and safe residential neighborhoods.
- Follow all safety protocols and regulatory guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for the team and the public.
- Collaborate with other departments and respond to citizen inquiries or service requests in a professional and timely manner.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in construction, landscaping, municipal maintenance, or a related trade is highly preferred.
- Ability to operate, or willingness to be trained on, heavy equipment and various power tools.
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a significant advantage or may be required within a specific timeframe of hire.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
