About the Role
Close is a bootstrapped, profitable, and 100% remote team of approximately 100 thoughtful individuals who prioritize extreme ownership and meaningful impact. Since 2013, we have been dedicated to building a CRM that focuses on better communication without the burden of manual data entry or complex interfaces. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join one of our six cross-functional teamsranging from Automations & Integrations to Data Insightsto help us supercharge sales productivity for small and scaling businesses worldwide. In this role, you will work within a modern tech stack centered on Python Flask, TaskTiger, and a diverse range of data stores including MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and Redis, all running on a heavily automated AWS infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities- Conceive, design, and launch sophisticated user-facing features that simplify complex sales workflows.
- Implement and iterate on advanced AI capabilities using LLMs from providers like OpenAI, Groq, and AssemblyAI to automate daily customer tasks.
- Architect and optimize the performance of our GraphQL and REST APIs to ensure low latency and high reliability.
- Manage and scale our massive data processing requirements, including billions of MongoDB documents and petabytes of network traffic.
- Improve the synchronization of millions of sales emails and calendar events processed each month.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams using WebSockets, WebRTC, and Twilios API to enhance real-time communication features.
- Develop and maintain internal messaging infrastructure leveraging streaming technologies like Kafka and Redis.
- Enhance the product through robust integrations with external platforms like Google G Suite, Zapier, and various web conferencing providers.
- Participate in rigorous code reviews and contribute to the maintenance of a high-quality, sustainable codebase.
- Contribute to our open-source projects and share insights through our engineering blog, The Making of Close.
- At least 5+ years of professional experience building and scaling modern back-end systems (8+ years for Staff-level consideration).
- Deep professional proficiency in Python is preferred, though strong experience in other languages coupled with a desire to master Python is acceptable.
- Proven track record of building internet-facing APIs that support high-volume loads and complex data interactions.
- Hands-on production experience with a variety of data stores, specifically MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Elasticsearch.
- Experience designing and debugging distributed systems to maintain high availability and performance.
- A strong sense of craftsmanship and pride in the quality of the code and systems you produce.
- Ability to manage time effectively and communicate clearly in a 100% remote, asynchronous work environment.
- Must be located within the USA (Lower 48 timezones).
- Bonus: Previous experience with B2B SaaS products, AI implementation, or contributing to open-source software.
