About the Role
The Community HealthCare Association of the Dakotas (CHAD) invites a dynamic and strategic executive to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer. As the unified voice for community health centers throughout the region, CHAD plays a critical role in supporting organizations that serve rural and underserved populations. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to shape the future of healthcare delivery, strengthen regional partnerships, and drive meaningful health equity across North Dakota and South Dakota.
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO serves as the organization’s chief ambassador and primary strategist. You will lead a high-performing team dedicated to workforce development, policy advocacy, and operational excellence. This remote-based role requires a leader who is deeply committed to the mission of community-based care and possesses the political acumen to navigate complex healthcare landscapes while ensuring the long-term financial and operational sustainability of the association and its members.
Key Responsibilities- Strategic Vision and Leadership: Provide overarching executive direction for CHAD, the Health Center Controlled Network (HCCN), and the Clinically Integrated Network (CIN), ensuring all initiatives align with the long-term mission and strategic plan.
- Advocacy and Representation: Serve as the lead advocate for community health centers, building influential relationships with state and federal policymakers, private funders, and healthcare industry leaders to advance legislative priorities.
- Organizational Excellence: Cultivate a collaborative, accountable, and innovative internal culture. Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities to staff and emerging leaders within the healthcare space.
- Board Governance: Partner closely with the Board of Directors to facilitate transparent governance, reporting on key performance indicators and organizational milestones.
- Financial Stewardship: Oversee the organization’s fiscal health, including complex grant management, compliance, and diversified revenue stream development to ensure sustainable growth.
- Member Engagement: Strengthen the value proposition for member organizations by facilitating data-driven decision-making, clinical integration, and strategic partnerships across the Dakotas.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business, Public Policy, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree (MHA, MPH, MBA) is highly preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of five years of progressive executive leadership experience within community health centers, public health agencies, or the broader healthcare sector.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of healthcare systems, financing models, and the unique challenges of rural healthcare delivery within North and South Dakota.
- Advocacy Skills: Proven track record of success in stakeholder engagement and public policy advocacy at a regional or national level.
- Operational Expertise: Demonstrated experience leading multi-site operations, complex programs, or member-based associations with significant financial oversight responsibilities.
- Communication: Exceptional public speaking and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire diverse audiences and build consensus among competing interests.
- Residency: Must reside in either North Dakota or South Dakota and be available for regular regional travel and occasional national conferences.
