About the Role
Calibrate Group AI is searching for a visionary and hands-on Senior Technical Lead to join our team as the founding technical hire. This is a unique opportunity to step into a co-builder role where you will own the entire technical vision, architecture, and execution of our product suite. We are not looking for a cog in a machine; we are looking for a strategic partner who is passionate about application-layer engineering. At Calibrate Group, we focus on building AI-powered tools that solve tangible business problems for real-world operators. If you are the type of engineer who gets more excited about connecting an AI agent to a business system to save an owner 10 hours a week than you do about tuning Kubernetes configurations, you will thrive in this environment.
As our first technical hire, you will be responsible for bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI capabilities and the practical needs of small-to-medium businesses. You will lead the development of our core client acquisition tools and operational platforms, ensuring that our technology provides immediate and measurable value. This role requires a blend of high-level architectural thinking and the ability to roll up your sleeves and code. You will be instrumental in defining our culture, our tech stack, and eventually, our technical team as we scale toward our next major revenue milestones.
Key Responsibilities- Architect and develop our core AI-powered diagnostic and recommendation engine, which serves as the primary tool for client acquisition and value delivery.
- Design and maintain robust integrations with essential SMB platforms, including Toast, Square, Mindbody, QuickBooks, and HubSpot, to ensure seamless data flow and automation.
- Build and optimize our AI agent stack using modern tools such as the Claude API, Make.com, and Clay to automate complex business workflows for our clients.
- Develop and oversee a client-facing portal that provides ongoing optimization data, transparent reporting, and actionable insights for business owners.
- Lead the technical roadmap and take full ownership of the development lifecycle, from initial ideation and prototyping to deployment and maintenance.
- Establish technical standards and best practices for the organization, ensuring scalability and security as the platform evolves.
- Drive the technical hiring process as the company grows, mentoring future engineering hires and fostering a culture of excellence and outcome-oriented development.
- Minimum of 8 years of professional engineering experience with a proven track record of shipping successful SaaS products to market.
- Deep familiarity with AI-native workflows; you use tools like Cursor, Claude API, and Make.com as part of your daily development process rather than as side experiments.
- Previous experience as a founding engineer or technical co-founder is highly preferred, demonstrating your ability to build from the ground up.
- Proven leadership experience, specifically in leading small, high-velocity engineering teams or projects with a focus on business outcomes over code for code's sake.
- A high degree of comfort with ambiguity; you are a problem-solver who can 'build the plane while flying it' in a fast-paced, evolving startup environment.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into business value for non-technical stakeholders and clients.
- Bonus: Prior experience in technical consulting, agency work, or other client-facing engineering roles where you managed both technical and business requirements.
- Opportunity to serve as a founding technical hire with significant influence over the company's product direction and technical culture.
- Fully remote work environment, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere while staying connected with a high-impact team.
- Competitive compensation package designed to reward high performance and long-term commitment.
- The chance to work at the forefront of the AI revolution, building practical applications that change how small businesses operate.
- Autonomy to choose the best tools and technologies to solve problems, free from the constraints of legacy enterprise technical debt.
- Growth potential into a C-level or executive leadership role as the company achieves its scaling targets.
