About the Role
Consultran is a legacy powerhouse in the trucking compliance industry, serving the sector since 1973. Over the past four years, we have undergone a massive digital transformation, evolving from legacy DOS systems and dot-matrix printers to a modern, web-based infrastructure. Recently, our leadership has successfully utilized tools like Claude and Replit Agent to prototype internal integrations and applications. As we scale this proof-of-concept into a robust technical ecosystem, we are seeking our first dedicated technical hire: a Senior Full-Stack Developer to serve as our Builder-in-Chief. This is not just a coding role; it is a product leadership position where you will own the entire lifecycle of our internal systems and external services, ensuring we continue to keep thousands of trucks on the road through innovative technology.
As the Builder-in-Chief, you will be the bridge between our operational needs and technical execution. You won't be writing every line of code by hand; instead, you will masterfully direct AI agents and orchestration tools to build features at an unprecedented pace. You will embed yourself directly within our client service teams to identify friction points in IFTA reporting, IRP renewals, and FMCSA operating authority processes. Your mission is to translate these real-world challenges into elegant, automated solutions. We are looking for a visionary who is comfortable in the 'weeds' but capable of maintaining a high-level view of system integrity, security, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities- Operational Deep-Dives: Spend time shadowing our compliance teams to truly understand the nuances of trucking regulations. You will identify manual bottlenecks and design 'wow' features that provide immediate value to our staff and clients.
- AI-Driven Development: Leverage the '3Cs'Claude, Cursor, and Codexto ship features rapidly. You will be responsible for validating, refactoring, and securing AI-generated code to ensure it meets production-grade standards.
- Incremental Shipping: Adopt a bias toward action by shipping functional updates weekly rather than waiting for perfect, long-term solutions. You will find the balance between 'incremental ambition' and architectural stability.
- System Design & Architecture: Collaborate with our part-time architect to design robust data models and scalable API integrations, such as normalizing third-party data from platforms like Terminal.
- User Experience Ownership: Develop 'not-too-shabby' frontends that prioritize usability and accessibility. You will ensure our internal tools are intuitive, clean, and optimized for our teams daily workflows.
- Testing & Documentation: Own the entire testing suite and maintain high-quality technical documentation to ensure long-term maintainability and efficient future enhancements.
- Proven Track Record: You have extensive experience shipping production-grade software and managing the full development lifecycle in a professional environment.
- Stack-Agnostic Expertise: You are comfortable navigating diverse environments including Ruby on Rails, Laravel, and Python. You prioritize the right tool for the job over personal preference.
- Mastery of AI Tools: You are an early adopter of AI coding assistants and understand how to leverage them to multiply your output while maintaining rigorous code quality.
- Problem-Solving Mindset: You would rather observe a users workflow firsthand than read a lengthy requirement document. You possess deep curiosity and a drive to solve complex business problems.
- Infrastructure Knowledge: Familiarity with PostgreSQL and various hosting environments such as Render and DigitalOcean, as well as no-code/low-code tools like Airtable and Zapier.
