About the Role

Are you a detail-oriented professional looking to bring your energy and expertise to a vital role within the Defence sector? ESS, a specialized division of Compass Group UK&I, is currently seeking a dedicated Buffer to join our high-performing team. In this position, you will be instrumental in maintaining the aesthetic and operational standards of our facilities, ensuring that our military and government environments remain clean, safe, and professional. This is more than just a maintenance role; it is an opportunity to join a community that celebrates individuality and rewards those who consistently go above and beyond the call of duty.

As a Buffer at ESS, you will work within a dynamic environment supporting over 250 UK military establishments and high-profile government sites. We pride ourselves on delivering excellence, and we know that the quality of our service starts with our people. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their craft, possesses a keen eye for detail, and understands the importance of maintaining a pristine environment for those who serve our country. With a structured 37-hour work week and a clear path for internal progression, this role is designed for someone looking to build a stable and rewarding career.

Key Responsibilities

Your daily activities will involve specialized surface care and general facility maintenance to ensure the highest quality of service. Your primary duties will include:

  • Operating heavy-duty industrial buffing and polishing machinery to maintain various floor surfaces to a high-gloss, professional standard.
  • Executing scheduled floor maintenance programs, including stripping, sealing, and polishing, while ensuring minimal disruption to site operations.
  • Conducting routine inspections of equipment to ensure all tools are in safe working order and reporting any maintenance requirements to the management team.
  • Adhering strictly to Health and Safety regulations, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), to ensure a safe environment for yourself and all site users.
  • Providing a friendly and professional face for ESS, interacting positively with military personnel, government officials, and visitors to the site.
  • Assisting with general cleaning and maintenance tasks as required to support the broader facility management team in achieving operational excellence.
  • Documenting work completed and maintaining inventory levels for cleaning supplies and equipment components.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate is someone who is proactive, reliable, and committed to delivering high-quality results. To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • Previous experience in a similar industrial cleaning or floor maintenance role, specifically utilizing high-speed buffers and polishing equipment.
  • A strong understanding of different floor types and the specific chemicals and techniques required to maintain them.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to achieving a perfect finish on every task.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your time effectively within a structured shift pattern.
  • A positive, customer-centric attitude with the communication skills necessary to interact with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion, showing respect for colleagues and clients from all backgrounds.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and the ability to pass the necessary security clearances required for Defence and government sites.

Benefits

When you join ESS and Compass Group UK&I, you are joining a company that truly invests in its people. We offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and career growth:

  • A stable, full-time contract of 37 hours per week with a consistent Monday to Friday day-shift pattern, allowing for an excellent work-life balance.
