About the Role
Teakwood Builders is an award-winning residential design-build firm that has been defining luxury living in the Greater Capital Region since 1996. We are currently seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Architectural Drafter to join our collaborative team. In this role, you will be a vital link in our integrated design-build process, transforming creative concepts into the precise technical documentation required to bring legacy-level luxury homes and sophisticated remodels to life. This position is designed for a professional who thrives in a collaborative environment where designers, planners, and construction experts work side-by-side to ensure technical excellence and superior craftsmanship in every project.
As a primarily remote position, this role offers significant flexibility, though it requires a candidate residing within New York State to accommodate occasional in-person coordination meetings and site visits in the beautiful Saratoga Springs area. We pride ourselves on a culture that values technical precision as much as creative vision, and we are looking for a drafter who shares our commitment to quality and organizational excellence. If you are passionate about residential architecture and possess the technical proficiency to produce coordinated drawing sets that support permitting, estimating, and on-site construction, we invite you to explore this opportunity with Teakwood Builders.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Architectural Drafter is responsible for the end-to-end production of residential architectural drawings. This includes developing comprehensive floor plans, elevations, sections, schedules, and intricate details that serve as the blueprint for our luxury projects. You will be expected to translate high-level design concepts and specific designer redlines into accurate, permit-ready construction documents that adhere to local zoning and building codes. Maintaining our established drawing standards and layering systems is critical, as is ensuring that all file structures remain organized throughout the project lifecycle. You will also manage revisions and produce as-built documentation to reflect real-world construction changes.
Beyond drafting, this role involves significant preconstruction support. You will assist in preparing drawing sets used for scope clarification, project planning, and accurate estimating. A key part of your workflow will include reviewing existing conditions, surveys, and various consultant reports to ensure every drawing is based on precise data. Coordination is at the heart of our design-build model; you will regularly collaborate with internal designers and project managers, as well as external structural, mechanical, and plumbing consultants. You will also participate in internal coordination meetings and conduct periodic site visits to verify field conditions, ensuring that our technical drawings perfectly align with the physical realities of the job site.
QualificationsTo be successful in this role, candidates should possess an Associates degree or professional certificate in Architectural Drafting, Architecture, or a closely related field. We prefer applicants with at least two years of professional experience specifically within the residential sector, particularly those who have a background in luxury remodeling or custom home construction. Mastery of AutoCAD is required, though candidates with strong proficiency in Revit are highly preferred as we continue to advance our technical capabilities. You must demonstrate a proven ability to prepare complete residential permit and construction drawing sets that are clear, accurate, and professional.
Technical skill must be matched by a deep understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and building systems. We value candidates who have experience documenting existing conditions in older or complex structures, as much of our work involves sophisticated remodeling. Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational habits are non-negotiable, as you will be managing multiple revisions and complex drawing sets. Furthermore, you must have the communication skills necessary to thrive in a remote-first environment, with the ability to articulate technical challenges and collaborate effectively with both design and construction staff. Applicants must reside in New York State and be able to travel to the Saratoga Springs area for occasional meetings or site visits, typically occurring about once per week.
BenefitsTeakwood Builders offers a highly competitive compensation package, with an hourly pay rate ranging from $28 to $32 depending on experience. This position is part-time and flexible, offering up to 34 hours per week, making it an ideal opportunity for a professional seeking a strong work-life balance without sacrificing the quality of the projects they work on. As a primarily remote role, you will have the autonomy to manage your drafting schedule while staying connected to a supportive and prestigious team. You will have the chance to work on award-winning, legacy-level projects that are recognized throughout the region for their craftsmanship and design excellence.
Joining Teakwood Builders means becoming part of a firm that values long-term career growth and technical mastery. We provide a collaborative work environment where your technical contributions directly impact the success of high-end builds. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. To apply, please mail a cover letter, rsum, and 23 sample sheets from a residential permit or construction drawing set (including plans, sections, or details) to our Saratoga Springs office.
