About the Role
Advocate is transforming how Americans access government benefits by bridging the gap between complex bureaucracy and human need. We are looking for a high-leverage Product Engineer to join our Tech Ops team—the connective tissue of our organization. Sitting at the intersection of technology, marketing, and operations, you will be a front-line builder responsible for ensuring our systems remain synchronized as we scale. This is not a traditional IT role; it is an opportunity to build the tools that empower our team to drive the time between need and relief down to zero. You will operate in a high-availability environment where your work directly impacts the lives of claimants through a combination of high-tech precision and human-centered support.
Key Responsibilities- Architect the End-to-End Journey Workbench: Build a centralized internal platform to visualize the entire claimant lifecycle, providing deep insights into every touchpoint from the first interaction to case closure.
- Develop the External Claimant Portal: Design and launch a user-facing portal that allows claimants to track real-time case status, upload medical evidence, and receive critical updates directly.
- Engineer the Growth Engine: Build robust data warehouse pipelines to trigger outbound communications and integrate with major PPC platforms to ensure bulletproof marketing attribution.
- Drive AI-Driven Developer Velocity: Implement automation pipelines using LLMs to bridge the gap between operational feedback in Slack and production fixes in the repository.
- Ensure System Resilience: Balance the immediate needs of front-line firefighting with long-term architectural stability, refactoring systems to ensure recurring operational hurdles are eliminated for good.
- Lead Platform Migrations: Support the transition of our current tech stack onto new architectures as we expand our services to support Veterans’ affairs and other government benefits.
- Digitize Operational Workflows: Automate physical mail processing and complex government forms while establishing deep observability across all systems to create a single source of truth.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in the full-stack TypeScript ecosystem, including React, Next.js, Node.js, and GraphQL, specifically within a monorepo environment.
- Data & Infrastructure: Strong experience with PostgreSQL (schema design and migrations), Redis, AWS, Terraform, and Docker.
- Product Ownership: A history of taking extreme ownership of projects, from initial intuition and requirements gathering to production success and user adoption.
- User-Obsessed Iteration: A desire to build relationships with internal and external users to ensure the technology you build solves real-world problems.
- Bias for Action: A commitment to "Massive Imperfect Action," shipping helpful MVPs quickly and iterating based on real-world data rather than chasing theoretical perfection.
- AI & Automation: Experience integrating LLMs into production environments, including prompting, tool use, and RAG/agent frameworks.
- Observability Mindset: A belief that a feature isn't finished until it's measured; you bake deep observability into everything you build using tools like Sentry, PostHog, or Databricks.
- Collaborative Spirit: Comfort with a "camera-on" mindset, thriving in a highly transparent, communicative, and remote-first team environment.
- Comprehensive Health & Wellness: Full medical, dental, and vision plans with $0 premium options and FSA/HSA accounts.
- Time to Recharge: 15 days of accrued PTO, 11 paid federal holidays, and dedicated sick leave.
- Family Support: 8 weeks of paid parental leave for all parents plus a 2-week flexible transition period.
- Professional Growth: A $500 annual learning stipend and 2 dedicated Growth Days per year for career development.
- Flexible Remote Culture: Work from anywhere you are most productive, with in-person team offsites hosted up to six times a year.
- Equity & Ownership: Competitive market salaries with performance-based raises and equity grants to share in the company's long-term success.
